Wow, funny, I just watched this movie a few minutes ago and somebody has asked a question about it

The hug scene between Sport and Iris was improvised too.

That, and the mirror scene, were the only improvised scenes where the improvisation was done as the camera rolled. Other improvs were done before hand like in rehearsals and then set in stone for the movie, such as:
– The phone conversation Tom has with the card makers (Or whatever they are, the whole “We are the people” thing)
– The little pep talk by Wizard to Travis

No, the Scorsese scene was not improvised.
